Kimberly Harbison, Library Media Specialist

Hello, my name is Kimberly Harbison, and I am the library media specialist at West Point High School.  I am an alumnus of West Point (1997), Wallace State College, Athens State University (B. S. Ed. 2003), and The University of West Alabama (M. Ed. 2007).  This is my ninth year in this position; prior to becoming a librarian, I taught English Language Arts in grades 7 and 8 for five years. 
I enjoy working with the students in grades 9-12 on a daily basis, helping them to find books to read and resources for projects as well as helping the students to use our available technology; with our flexible schedule, the library staff is available to assist students with technology and resources at any time during our school day. Our library media center has a computer area for student use which includes 30 computers; in addition, we have a mobile cart with 30 chromebooks available for student use in the library media center and for classroom checkout by teachers.  During this school year, our library media center has undergone some renovation to create a coffee shop atmosphere which the students are enjoying.  It makes the library a more welcoming place!  (See photos in the photo gallery.)
In addition to my role as a library media specialist, I serve as the school yearbook adviser, the WPHS Beta Club sponsor,  a Senior Class sponsor, and a bookkeeper for the freshman basketball team.  This year I am excited to be teaching a musical theater class and co-directing the school's spring musical production.  
My husband, Jimmy Harbison, also teaches at WPHS; we have a daughter and a son who attend elementary school at West Point.  Outside school, I enjoy reading, cooking and baking, photography, re-purposing old furniture, genealogy research, singing, travel, and activities with my family and church. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner:  I have recently begun playing the piano, and I am also taking additional Master's level English courses to update my certification in that area. I feel that reading, research skills, and technology use are vital to lifelong learning and that anyone can enjoy reading when he or she finds the right book that interests him or her.
